Volunteer Opportunity with AIDC - Let Your Voice Be Heard!

We're looking for two AIDC members who can spare a total of 6-8 hours over the next two months to help the Nominations and Elections team identify and select nominees for election to open seats on the AIDC 2010 Board of Directors. The Nominations & Elections team, led by immediate past president, Dave Lamb, consists of one member appointed by the current president, one member appointed by the current Board of Directors and two members selected by the membership. The team will be responsible for reviewing prospective nominees for each open seat and approving a final slate to be presented to the full membership. Most of the work will be done by telephone & email with the possibility of one face-to-face meeting if needed.

If you're interested in participating or have additional questions, please let us know by reply to this email. Thank you.

AIDC Board Approves Contribution to AI Government Relations Committee

The AIDC board approved a $10,000 contribution to the AI Government Relations Committee in response to the funding request below. The contribution was accompanied by a letter from AIDC President, John Reyle, voicing the chapter's support for the overall effort to ensure a fair and level playing field for all appraisers, but also included a request that more be done to protect residential appraisers and specifically expressed a very strong concern that HVCC creates a detrimental environment for the residential appraiser in terms of compensation from third party vendor management companies.

(On a related front, AIDC board member, Don Boucher SRA, will be meeting with the Virginia Association of Realtors on June 2 to discuss the HVCC and use of AMCs. Please let us know by reply to this email if you're interested in attending the meeting.)

Letter from AI Government Relations Committee

Dear Fellow Chapter Officers:

This year will be the most active and trying year in the history of appraisal regulation.  We have issues of Federal and State Legislation as well as numerous Agency regulatory rule changes which will affect our livelihoods.

Aside from issues related to TARP, predatory lending, banking and financial services regulatory reform, implementation of the Home Valuation Code of Conduct and foreclosure prevention, the Washington office is involved with and advocating your interests on IRS rules and multiple state initiatives to regulate appraisal management companies, and others involving the legitimacy of broker price opinions.  While some of these activities are part of the office's normal workload, the issues related to the unparalleled economic situation are not.

Simply put, our Washington office is deluged, and we need some help.  We need outside help from a professional lobbying firm to supplement our efforts and elevate our profile on Capitol Hill and within the new Administration.  Our National office allotted an emergency $75,000, but we will need significantly more funding to be effective.

In January, the North Star Chapter in Minnesota challenged the other Appraisal Institute Chapters to contribute Chapter funding to Government Relations efforts in DC (see e-mail below).  They pledged $10,000 if at least $140,000 were contributed by the other Chapters.  The challenge was based on their suggestion of a contribution of $25.00 per Chapter Member. Several other chapters have already agreed to pitch in, most notably the Northern California Chapter, which is providing an unconditional $15,000 towards the cause.

While a message went out in January to the Chapters announcing this challenge, the Government Relations Committee believes it to be extremely important that we ask that your Chapter expedite your consideration of this request.  Frankly, we need the money now.  Issues are moving fast and we can't afford to be left behind.

Your Government Relations Committee and our staff are fighting hard to represent you, but we need ammunition and we need it NOW!  Please call a special meeting of your Board of Directors and help us with an extraordinary donation on behalf of our members.  The GRC will be good stewards of any funding received and we will be reporting back to you often.

Thanking you in advance,

Your Government Relations Committee
